The isolated nature of wilderness programs creates unique risks for maltreatment in Gen Z participants. This session applies SafeSport's internationally-recognized prevention framework—developed by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and adopted by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic committees—to outdoor education contexts. Participants will explore how this evidence-based system, used by sporting organizations worldwide, translates to wilderness settings. We'll examine practical protocols tailored to Gen Z's communication styles, boundary expectations, and reporting preferences. Leave with generation-specific tools to create safer environments that respect their heightened awareness of boundaries and consent without compromising the transformative wilderness experience they seek.
