Our attitudes towards risk in this field are evolving. By now, many of us would likely identify risk as a fundamental aspect of our outdoor pursuits. It contributes profoundly to the value and meaning of our experiences. How can this perspective shift inform our practices and relationship to risk? Is risk something for us to manage, as we might manage a waterway with a dam? Or is it something we might be able to engage and cultivate relationship with? Perhaps both....
An overview of multi-level risk engagement strategies that support an environment of empowerment and improved outcomes, described in the context of a community-based outdoor behavioral health nonprofit.
