Responding to a crisis, such as a participant fatality, is complex. A crisis has the potential to overwhelm an organization's staff and resource, and threaten the ability to run programs in the short or long-term. It can be stressful and chaotic. Having a response plan in place that addresses foreseeable needs allows the people in your organization to focus on inevitable surprises and lays the foundation for a thorough and compassionate response. This workshop will provide a starting point for creating a crisis management plan. We will use a NOLS case study to illustrate one approach to crisis planning and response, and will also identify potential modifications for smaller organizations.
