Dr. Katharine E. T. Thompson is an Assistant Research Professor at The Pennsylvania State University and a Research Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University, specializing in fieldwork safety. With nearly 15 years of experience studying socio-ecological systems in Afrotropic environments, her research spans wildmeat capture and consumption, food security, and zoonotic disease spillover in Sub-Saharan Africa. Holding a PhD in Anthropology from Stony Brook University, Dr. Thompson integrates systems thinking and risk analysis to enhance safety standards in scientific fieldwork. She is part of the NSF-funded SAFER (Scientist Adverse Field Experiences) project, dedicated to improving risk management for field scientists.
